The Chubu region is the entire central area of Honshu. It is made up of 9 prefectures which are Niigata, Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Yamanashi, Nagano, Gifu, Shizuoka, and Aichi.
With the Sea of Japan to its north, the southern side faces the Pacific Ocean and a mountainous terrain called the Japan Alps stretches in a vertical direction through the region.

In terms of climate, the Sea of Japan side is a snowbelt where lots of snow fall in wintertime. The inland area experiences extreme temperature differences between summer and winter seasons. Although the Pacific Ocean side's winter is dry, the temperature is fairly mild and the rainfall level is quite high throughout the year.

As for sightseeing, there are mountains such as the Japan Alps made up of three mountain ranges (the Hida, Kiso, and Akaishi Mountain Ranges) and Mt. Fuji, the tallest one in the country. All these mountains are very popular among hikers.
There are many ski resorts in the prefectures of Niigata and Nagano which are popular because they are all conveniently located in terms of access from Tokyo.
Takayama and the Gassho-zukuri houses ("prayer-hands construction" style) of the Historic Villages of Shirakawago and Gokayama (designated as a World Heritage site) are places that lets you feel the cultural side of Japan.
The Chukyo area centered around Nagoya City is considered as one of the 3 three major metropolitan areas in Japan and is famous as an industrial district where the headquarters of Toyota Motors is located.
