Okutadami is in Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. It is found near the border the prefecture shares with Fukushima. Located in the Echigo Sanzan Tadami Quasi-National Park surrounded by 2,000-meter tall mountains such as Echigo-Komagatake, Nananodake, and Hakkaisan, it also serves as a gateway to Oze from Niigata.
Most of the forests in the area are made up of beech trees and many of them are more than 200 years old. There also are many deciduous broad-leaved trees such as chestnuts and maples. Therefore, the area is known for its beautiful fresh green leaves in spring and amazing crimson foliage in autumn. From the pleasure boat that takes you on a tour of Lake Okutadami, the largest artificial in the country, you can enjoy the seasonal beauty created by nature. Nearby are habitats of rare species such as Japanese serows and golden eagles.
Ginzandaira is a scenic area located on the western side of Lake Okutadami. With a campsite and a tennis court, it offers a perfect place where you can spend an enjoyable time in a natural setting. You can also get to Ginzandaira from Okutadami by using the pleasure boat.
