Echigoyuzawa

Echigoyuzawa Echigoyuzawa

Echigoyuzawa is a hot spring resort in a convenient location only two hours away from Tokyo via the Shinkansen (bullet train). It served as the setting for Yasunari Kawabata's novel "Snow Country" and became known throughout the country.
It is a town spreading along the Uono River situated in the mountains near the prefectural border. Because there are many sport facilities for tennis and golf as well as popular ski resorts such as Ishiuchi and Gala Yuzawa, many tourists come here to get relief from the heat in summer and enjoy skiing in winter.
If you travel away from the central area of town where many inns, hotels, and souvenir stores stand, you can visit such places as Kiyotsu Gorge and Akiyamago which are beautiful scenic areas created by green mountains and limpid streams.
The Okutadami region in the northeastern part of Echigoyuzawa is one of the major snow belts in the country. It is also known as a secluded hot spring spot and as a major crimson foliage viewing site.
