This cape is the easternmost point in Hokkaido, located at 43 degrees, 23 minutes, 7 second north latitude, and 145 degrees, 49 minutes, 1 degree east longitude. It is famous for being the first place from which the rising sun can be seen. The lighthouse at the end of Cape Nosappu, the oldest in Hokkaido, was lit in 1872 and is a symbol of the cape. Visible from here are Kaigara Island and Suisho Island of the Khabomai Archipelago. Kunashir Island, one of the Kuril Islands (called the Northern Territories in Japan), rises in the north. The Bridge on the Four Islands is a monument symbolizing prayers for the early return of the Kuril Islands. The cape is also known as Drift Ice Cape due to the dynamic drift ice that can be seen here. Nearby are several tourist attractions such as the House of Nostalgia for the Homeland, which provides information on sightseeing and local products in Nemuro and the Kuril Islands, and souvenir shops and restaurants at the Northern Hall, the Tourism Product Center, and the Peace Tower.
