Gunma
Gunma Prefecture is situated on the northern part of the Kanto region with continuous mountains on its north and west sides. It is an inland prefecture and a plain spreads in its southeastern area.
The shape of the land is said to look like a crane flying in the sky. Though Japan is surrounded by sea, this prefecture is one of the few that stands in the inland side of the country. With a mountain range each as much as 2000 meters high, Gunma is also known to have many famous mountains such as the well-known Mt. Asama (active volcano), Mt. Akagi and Mt.Tanigawa.
Additionally, farming is actively conducted in respective regions of the prefecture and it is famous for its production of highland vegetable including green onions. With many lakes, wetlands such as Oze, valleys, and Tone River's limpid stream, it is indeed surrounded by nature that is breathtakingly beautiful.
Gunma also has many hot spring resorts that offer various great effects for the body and many tourists visit this prefecture during the winter for skiing or snowboarding.
