A symbol of the entire Haruna region, Mount Haruna is one of the "Three Mountains of Jomo". In the center of Mount Haruna's is a crater lake-Lake Haruna-and the central volcanic cone Haruna Fuji at an altitude of 1,390 meters. The unique mountain terrain is complex, with Mount Kamongadake, the highest peak at 1,449 meters, Mount Tenmoku, Mount Soma、Mount Eboshidake, Mount Bingushi, and other mountains of an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters surrounding it. Mount Haruna has been the object of mountain worship from ancient times, and Haruna Shrine is located at the southwestern foot of the mountain.
Lake Haruna provides recreational boating, and trails maintained in the surrounding area allow visitors to enjoy hiking while viewing seasonal flowers. A popular activity when a thick layer of ice covers the lake is fishing for lake smelt.
The summit of Haruna Fuji can be accessed by taking the Mount Haruna Ropeway. Lake Haruna can be seen from the summit, as well as Mount Akagi the range of peaks on Mount Tanigawa in the distance.
