Minakami/Oze
The Minakami/Oze area is located in northern Gunma Prefecture, along the border with Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture. The area has an lush natural environment, with hot springs scattered throughout the mountains.
With its range of mountains and greenery nourished by the clear waters of the Tone River, the Minakami area provides the opportunity to engage in a variety of outdoor sports, including mountain climbing, rafting, and canoeing in the summer, and skiing in the winter. It is also known as one of Gunma's best hot spring regions.
Dotted with lakes, the Oze area is one of Japan's most famous highland wetlands, and is known as a forerunner of Japan's nature conservation movement. From spring to summer, the area is filled with white arums, Chinese daylilies, and other alpine flora. The view of the surrounding mountains is also spectacular, and is popular as a hiking spot.
