Mount Akagi Mount Akagi

Mount Akagi stands near the center of Gunma Prefecture, and with Mount Haruna and Mount Myogi, is one of the Three Mountains of Jomo. The mountains crater is surrounded by mountains, including the highest peak of Mount Kurobi at an altitude of 1,828 meters, creating a double volcano with gentle slopes spreading out from the whole. Visitors can climb from the Mount Akagi Visitor's Center to Mount Kurobi, Mount Komagadake, and other destinations. The area has many locations that provide enjoyment of the natural environment, whatever the season, including Lake Onuma for ice fishing for lake smelt in the winter, and Lake Konuma with its clusters of Japanese azalea in early summer, both located near the summit. In particular, Akaginanmen Senbon-zakura (which means 1000 Cherry Trees on the Southern Face of Mount Akagi) is famous for its tunnel of cherry blossoms that runs for 2 kilometers north to south, and is at its most beautiful in mid-April. Akagi Shrine stands at the foot of Mount Kurobi, providing a spectacular view of Lake Onuma and Mount Komagadake.
