Takasaki/Maebashi
Gunma Prefectures central facilities are located in the southern part of the prefecture, which is at the northern edge of the Kanto Plain.
80% of all Daruma dolls made in Japan are produced in Takasaki. Anciently the city flourished as a commercial crossroads, but in recent years it has become the home to many art museums and galleries, as well as orchestras, transforming it into a regional hub of art and culture activities.
Maebashi is a "silk town" that at one time had a prosperous silk industry. Now the prefectural capital, it is the center of government and economy for the prefecture.
The region was a key player in eastern Japan around the 4th century, and many ancient burial mounds and shrines remain to this day. In addition, traditional textile production sites such as Isesaki and Kiryu also dot the surrounding area. The Takasaki/Maebashi area provides much enjoyment of history and culture.
