Ibaraki Prefecture is located on the northeastern side of the Kanto region with the Pacific Ocean on its east. Its climate is of the Pacific type which makes it warm and pleasant.

A range of mountains can be seen on the northern side with many rivers such as the Kuji and Naka flowing through them and a number of plains spreading in their basins. There also are vast plains which stretch throughout the central and southwestern regions while the Tone River having the largest basin area nationwide runs along the prefecture's southern border and flows into the Pacific Ocean.

Additionally, Ibaraki is well-known as one of the nation's greatest agricultural areas because of its many waterways; it is also famous for Kasumigaura, the second largest lake in Japan boasting its abundance of water.

With the development of expressways and international trading ports in recent years, the prefecture is making it its commitment to actively deal with sharing of airfields among private sectors and conducting maintenance to build a high-speed/large-capacity basis.

Furthermore, Ibaraki is also famous for its academic research cities such as Tsukuba and with the recent opening of the railway (Tsukuba Express) that links the center of Tokyo (Akihabara) with Tsukuba, convenience for travelling has further been improved.
