Hakone
Hakone has been well-known since the ancient times as a hot spring resort. During the Edo period, a checking station was located here in this region.
Since the modern era , Hakone rapidly began prospering through tourism development and turned into a sightseeing resort with hot springs as well as Lake Ashino, rich natural environment with beautiful mountains, and many cultural assets such as the former Tokaido (ancient highway).
Additionally, this region is also famous for the Hakone Tozan Railway, the only authentic mountain railway in the country, that passes through the entire area. From mid-June to mid-July, so many hydrangeas bloom beautifully along the track that they seem to almost touch the train windows.
Because it is conveniently located near the Tokyo metropolitan area, making a day trip to Hakone is possible from Tokyo. Indeed it is a tourist resort that is known well throughout the world.
