Opened in 1999, Taro Okamoto Museum of Art stands in the beautiful natural setting of Ikuta Ryokuchi. The brightly white, 30-meter tall "Tower of Mother" is the symbol of this museum. Approximately 1,800 works of Taro Okamoto (1911-1996), a native of Kawasaki City, that have been donated by the artist himself are mainly exhibited as well as some of those by his parents, Ippei Okamoto (manga artist) and Kanoko (scholar of literature). The museum also collects and exhibits other modern artworks.
Through Taro Okamoto's fieldwork covering a broad range from painting to sculpting and folklore studies, the exhibits let you enjoy the world of this renowned artist to the fullest extent.
Temporary exhibitions are held twice to four times a year, for example, Taro Okamoto's art theme exhibition, up-and-coming artist exhibition, and exhibition for children. Additionally, the permanent exhibition is renewed three times a year.
