Miura Peninsula Miura Peninsula

Located on the southeastern side of Kanagawa Prefecture, this peninsula separates Tokyo and Sagami Bays.
Its eastern part faces Tokyo Bay's Uraga Suido. You will find such places of interest as Yokosuka Port, Kurihama Port, and a beach called Miura Kaigan while the bays of Odawa and Koajiro are found in the western part.
The coastline of this peninsula is rather complicated. For this reason, there are many fishing ports utilizing the coves. Moreover, the area also functions as a marine resort featuring beaches of Zushi and Araihama as well as the yacht harbor of Hayama.
In Yokosuka that has served as a marine gateway of Edo and Tokyo since the old days, there are many historic sites related to events marking the end of the period of isolation. After the Meiji era (1868-) began, it was developed into a military port and bases belonging to Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force and the American military are currently located here.
