Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

The old-fashioned Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse facing the Yokohama Port is made of two wings where you can find many restaurants and stores.

In the first wing, there is a hall where concerts are held and a number of stores selling traditional products of the city as well as its unique items. The second wing is comprised of unique stores selling fashion and general merchandise goods. There also are restaurants where you can spend long, quiet hours of pleasant dining.

The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse was built in 1911 and was actively used as the distribution base of the Yokohama Port. Since then, it continued to flourish although it was met with earthquake and war disasters until ending its long history as a warehouse in 1989 due to the changes that occurred in marine transportation. Nevertheless, the city decided to preserve and utilize this warehouse, a true witness of the long history of Minato Mirai heavily tinged with the tones from the Meiji and Taisho eras. As a result of this decision, it was reborn into a commercial complex in 2002. At the same time, the area around the warehouse was made into a park which is now known as Akarenga Park (Red Brick Park).

With the wind blowing from the port, you can enjoy a pleasant stroll while feeling the memories of the good old days of Yokohama.
