This is a museum featuring ports and ships located in "Nipponmaru Memorial Park" in Yokohama's Minato Mirai 21 district. The permanent exhibition room where models and other exhibits are displayed is divided into the following five zones: "Nipponmaru (sailing ship)", "History of Yokohama Port", "Images of Yokohama Port", "Transition of Ships", and "Ports of the World".
Nipponmaru, a sailing ship built in 1930, was used as a training vessel by students studying mercantile marine. Until it retired from service in 1984, 11,500 students went through training on this ship. From 1985, it has been preserved in its original state and is open to the public.
