Jinbocho/Otemachi

Jinbocho/Otemachi Jinbocho/Otemachi

This is the area spreading from Chidorigafuchi to the eastern side of the Imperial Palace. Jinbocho is known as a bookstore town and you will especially find many stores selling used books. In fact, it is a town with one of the highest number of secondhand bookstores in the world. It is also an area where students gather since there are various colleges, high schools, technical schools, and private tutoring schools located here. For this reason, you will find many restaurants that offer large portions of food at reasonable prices. Walking southward from Jinbocho along the moat surrounding the Imperial Palace will take you to Otemachi. This town is called so because in the past, it was facing the Otemon (main gate) of the Edo Castle (present-day Imperial Palace). Currently, many headquarters of major financial institutions, trading companies, and newspaper publishers are located in this area that is now serving as a center of Japanese economy. Nearby are large-sized facilities such as Budokan and Tokyo Dome that are used as venues for sports, martial arts, and concerts.
