Okutama/Takao Okutama/Takao

Okutama and Takao are commuter towns of Tokyo. Both are areas situated in beautiful natural settings.
Okutama surrounded by mountains and the limpid stream of the Tama River has many tourist spots where you can enjoy a day trip from Tokyo to enjoy nature through such activities as fishing, hiking, and visiting limestone caves. Lake Okutama located at the border the prefecture shares with Yamanashi is the starting point of the climb up Mt. Mitake (Mitakesan). Because there are hot springs of Okutama and Tsuru-no-yu nearby, you can also enjoy a day trip to either one of them.
Takao is a treasure house of wild birds and plants with many natural trails and hiking routes. Therefore, you can fully enjoy the wonderful mountain environment through a day-trip experience from Tokyo.
Going up to the top of the mountain is made convenient thanks to the cable cars and lifts. The beer garden opened every night during the summer is popular among many people as a place where you can see the beautiful nightscape of Tokyo from the cool mountaintop.
