Shinjuku Higashiguchi (Shinjuku East Side) is the area around Shinjuku Station's east exit. Regardless of the official names given to the exit and entrance gate, it is commonly called "Higachiguchi."
Centered around the Shinjuku Station, a terminal station for JR as well as other railway companies, the Higashiguchi serves as a gateway for people heading toward the Shinjuku Sanchome direction where department stores such as Isetan and Mitsukoshi are located. It is also used as a meeting place when shopping in Shinjuku. Indeed, this area is always filled with many young people and businessmen. Right outside JR Shinjuku Station's east exit is the Studio Alta, a place especially crowded with people waiting for their friends and acquaintances.
With offices and shopping buildings next to each other as well as a cluster of amusement facilities, this area indeed displays a truly energetic atmosphere.
As the gateway to the sleepless town of Shinjuku, neon lights still shine even late at night while the streets never become abandoned.
