Yanaka Ginza Yanaka Ginza

Yanaka Ginza is a shopping street wrapped in an atmosphere unique to an old-fashioned town.
Walking up the slope from the station, you will find a variety of stores selling fish, meat, vegetables, flowers, stationery, books, electric appliances, and clothes. There also are delis that attract a lot of customers. Each store has a paper-cutout or wooden sign, helping out in maintaining the characteristic atmosphere of the shopping street.
In prewar days, it was a two-meter wide street close to the station with a dozen stores. However, after the Second World War, it was expanded to the current width. Today, you will find approximately 70 stores standing next to each other in a very lively atmosphere.
On the way up the slope from Nippori Station to the shopping street is a set of steps commonly known as "Yuyake Dandan". It was given this name because of the beautiful sunset (Yuyake) that can be viewed from here. It is also known as a place where many cats gather to bask in the sun.
