Kinki
The Kinki region is made up of 7 prefectures (2 "Fu" and 5 "Ken") located in the area covering Honshu's center all the way to its west side, which are: Mie, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, and Wakayama.
The region's northern part faces the Sea of Japan while the Seto Inland Sea and Pacific Ocean are found on its southern side.
Before the Edo period, this area was Japan's political, economic, and cultural center where the Imperial court and the country's feudal government were established.
As for its climate, it can be divided into 4 types. The mountainous area in the northern Sea of Japan part experiences lots of snow during winter.
The weather in the Seto Inland Sea part is mild throughout the year with little rain.
The inland area's summers are very hot while winters get pretty cold due to the foehn phenomenon and because it is a basin-shaped valley.
It rains a lot in the Pacific Ocean part whose summers and winters are drastically different in terms of temperature.
To enjoy sightseeing in this region, you can experience the uniquely Osakan food culture or get intimate with nature in the area of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan.
There also are many other choices such as the historic structures in Kyoto and Nara, the Himeji Castle (one of the greatest Japanese castles), and the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range (World Heritage site).
