The Kuma River is the largest river in the prefecture and also one of the three most rapid rivers of Japan.
The popular Kuma River cruise offers two courses: The approximately 8-kilometer course down the fairly slow-running limpid stream from Hitoyoshi to Watari and the approximately 10-kilometer course down the rapid stream from Watari to Kyusendo. Both courses take about 90 minutes on a boat steered by a skillful boatman.
Each boat can hold up to 15 passengers and reserving it for group use is also possible. In wintertime, some of the boats offer Kotatsu (low, wooden table frame covered by a thick blanket with a heat source beneath it).
Rafting down the rapid stream on rubber boats while dodging rocky stretches will prove to be thrilling but fun for the experienced. Indeed, it will definitely let you enjoy Kuma River's rapid stream to the fullest.
Boat tours and rafting can be enjoyed from March to November while Kotatsu boats are operated from December to February.
