Yabakei, a gorge located along the Yamakuni River, has been known as a scenic location since the old days.
The landscape created by the rocks that were weathered over a long period of time is indeed breathtaking.
There also are other places of interest such as the "Ao-no-Domon” (Blue Grotto), a tunnel that took a monk 30 years to dig using only chisel and hammer in the Edo era, and "Ichimoku Hakkei (literally "eight sights at a glance") that allows you to view all the eight beautiful landscapes all at once.
The crimson foliage season in autumn is especially beautiful and there also is a hot spring resort located near the river. Therefore, Yabakei indeed is a popular spot among tourists from near and far.
