Beppu Ropeway is used as a mode of transportation to go up the Tsurumidake, a mountain standing behind Beppu Hot Spring.

From Kogen Station located on the mountainside, this large-sized gondola that holds 101 passengers (one of the largest in terms of size in western Japan) will take you up to Tsurumisanjo Station in about 10 minutes.

A rich natural environment spreads before your eyes at Tsurumidake, one of the 300 most beautiful mountains in Japan, with attractive seasonal features including Miyamakirishima in early summer, crimson foliage in autumn, and rime ice in winter.

From the mountaintop, you can also enjoy a sweeping view that includes Beppu City, Beppu Bay, and Kuju mountain range. On a nice, sunny day, you can see all the way to Shikoku as well.
