Located in Ocean Expo Park, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is an aquarium unique to Okinawa Prefecture, surrounded by ocean and blessed with abundant marine resources. Churaumi Aquarium is designed to introduce a variety of marine life from Okinawa's seas by displaying individual categories such as Coral Reef, Kuroshio (black current) Sea and Deep Sea, etc.
The acrylic observation window of the Kuroshio Sea's 2-story tank is the largest in the world. Whale sharks, large sharks, rays and other pelagic fish swim in the tank, providing visitor with a breathtaking emotional and exciting sight. Especially, whale sharks and manta attract mass attention. The whale shark, with which Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium achieved the world's first success in long-term breeding, is the icon of this aquarium. Feeding explanations are conducted at this huge tank.
At the Coral Reef exhibition on the 3rd floor, breeding of living corals is carried out by utilizing natural light and fresh seawater from the neighboring ocean. Most of the 70 types of 800 colony corals were bred in the aquarium over more than 5 years. Natural scenes of reef-building corals can be observed with explanations about the life of coral by expert staff.
This is a spot where you can lose track of time and intimately feel the lure of the sea and devote yourself the world of the oceans.
