Hachimantai Plateau Hachimantai Plateau

Hachimantai is a volcanic plateau with primeval forests and alpine floras straddling the border between Akita and Iwate prefectures. Around 40 volcanic mountains are concentrated in this area, and there are numerous springs of hot water and volcanic mud as well as many volcanic lakes.
One of the largest ski hills in Tohoku, Hachimantai Ski Resort, is also located in this area, allowing visitors to enjoy leisure activities throughout the year. There are two routes available: Hachimantai Aspite Line and Hachimantai Jukai Line, both provide a magnificent view of Hachimantai. Especially, the breathtaking scenes of fresh greenery in the spring and colored leaves in autumn are particularly impressive. Tamagawa Hot Spring, located in the Hachimantai Hot Spring Village, has strong acidic water with powerful medicinal effects which is a rarity in Japan. It attracts people who need hot-spring treatment from all over the country as it is one of the biggest therapeutic bathing facilities in the Tohoku region.
