【Beef Tongue】
Known as the city where beef tongue originated in, there are many restaurants serving this dish in Sendai. Why is beef tongue so delicious? Simply because it is char-grilled. The fully aged meat is grilled over a strong charcoal fire and served sizzling hot. This dish is usually served with Mugimeshi (boiled barley and rice), pickled vegetables, and ox tail soup. Other beef tongue menus include tongue stew and tongue Sashimi.

【Maesawa Beef/Yonezawa Beef】
Famous types of Tohoku’s brand beef are “Maesawa Beef” from Okushu City in Iwate and “Yonezawa Beef” from Yonezawa City and its neighboring Okitama area in Yamagata. “Yonezawa Beef” is especially well-known and is considered as one of the three finest beef brands in the country along with “Matsusaka Beef” and “Kobe Beef”.

【Kamaboko (fish cake)】
Kamaboko is a type of processed seafood. Its main ingredient is a paste made from white fish (Alaskan Pollack, etc.) which is heated after adding some salt. Although the shape varies depending on the region, Tohoku is known for Sendai’s “Sasa-Kamaboko” that looks like a bamboo leaf.
