This hot spring resort is located near the mouth of the Ago Bay in the southern part of Shima Peninsula where one of the most beautiful ria coasts can be found. There are three hot spring sources with different types of spring quality called Mitabi-no-yu, Kujira-no-yu, and Bijin-no-yu. Because the area faces the Kumanonada (Kumano Sea), there are many inns from where you can enjoy the stunning view of the sun setting into the horizon. Moreover, from the open-air and large-sized baths that offer great scenery, you can also gaze at the evening view while soaking in the warm water. Another enjoyable feature of this area is that extremely fresh seafood caught in Hamajima Port, a great natural port, such as Japanese spiny lobsters, the local specialty, can be savored. In summertime, swimming in the sea near the Shoshikahama Sho-Koen, a park located in the western part of the town, can also be enjoyed.
