Fukuoka Airport is located about 11 minutes away by subway from Tenjin which is the central area of Fukuoka, the largest city in Kyushu. Because it is close to the urban district also with expressways running nearby, it is the most conveniently located airport in Japan.
Fukuoka City is located in the western part of the Japanese archipelago and international flights from the airport offer many routes to nearby Asian countries. Because Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya are accessible from Fukuoka by shinkansen (bullet train) and express bus, competition between the airports exists. There are four terminals: Terminal 1 (domestic flights to regional cities), Terminal 2 (domestic flights to major cities), Terminal 3 (international arrivals), and International Departures. A shuttle bus service takes you from one terminal to another (an approximately 10 minute ride). In the airport terminal are many food establishments and souvenir shops while you can also find a lounge where you can relax (admission required). From the airport, it is only a five-minute subway ride to Hakata Station while local buses also take you to the city. If you use the express bus, you can go directly to various regions such as the prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Oita, Kumamoto, and Nagasaki.
