Tempura is a type of dish made by deep-frying vegetables, mountain vegetables, and seafood that are lightly battered with flour and eggs.
Because expensive ingredients and lots of oil are used, it is considered as an expensive cuisine.
Tempura can be enjoyed by dipping it into Tentsuyu (sauce made from a blend of Japanese sake, Mirin [type of rice wine], soy sauce, and bonito flakes) or in the form of Tendon(Tempura served over rice).
There also are dining establishments that offer Tendon in a fast-food style.
Preparation
1. Prepare the batter by mixing eggs, cold water, and flour.
2. Batter the ingredients such as vegetables, mountain vegetables, and seafood.
3. Deep-fry them in oil at a temperature of around 170℃. Serve with Tentsuyu.
Although it seems easy to make just by battering the ingredients and deep-frying them in oil, certain tricks are necessary such as controlling the temperature of the oil and the how much batter should be used. Therefore, it is a dish that is quite difficult to perfect.
