In many cases, Inkan (seals) are used more often than signatures. Placing a seal on important papers such as contracts validates that the agreement has been concluded.
There are different types of personal seals used separately according to various purposes.
Mitome-In (personal seal): Frequently used when receiving important mail and packages.
Ginko-In (bank seal): Used when opening an account at financial institutions such as banks and applying for a credit card or payment via bank account for utilities.
Jitsu-In (registered seal): Seals that are registered are called Jitsu-In which are necessary for real estate deals, vehicle registration, etc. After placing a Jitsu-In, that form must be submitted along with a seal registration certificate issued by the ward office or city hall.
