Judo is one of the traditional martial arts of Japan. This sport was originated at the Kodokan Institute and its founder is Jigoro Kano.
Players wear Judogi (judo uniform) and compete one-on-one on the Tatami (woven straw mat) by throwing the opponent’s body or pinning it to the ground.
Judo employs the Dan/Kyu grading system and each individual is ranked by considering such factors as his/her skills and number of years in training.
The color of the belt worn around the waist of the Judogi shows the person's Dan/Kyu grade.
Judo became an official Olympic sport in 1964 at the Tokyo Olympics and is now a competitive sport played by many around the world.
